We are a collective of artists (illustrators, muralists, street artists, cartoonists, painters, graphic designers, writers) based in Australia that create art and writing for the workers’ movement.

Vitally, we also come as workers from various industries such as warehousing, call centres, construction, disability support work, hospitality and general labouring, and understand the importance of working class organisation.

We believe that a globally united working class is the most powerful force in society, and is the primary agent that can bring capitalism to its knees.

We carry on a long tradition of art that not only fights for social justice, but immerses itself within the organs of working class power - the mighty trade unions.

We acknowledge that the unions of Australia have been greatly weakened by decades of neoliberal attacks. Union membership is at an all time low while workers are being heavily exploited. Wages aren’t growing relative to the cost of living, while profits continue to soar for the big end of town. We’re working harder than ever and seeing little of the fruits of our labour. We’re increasingly divided and fractured by a casualised, insecure work environment deliberately imposed by the bosses. And with this, working class culture suffers.

questions

Do you have prints or artwork for sale?

We do not currently run an online shop as a collective but if you are interested in purchasing work by any of the artists within the collective the best option is to go to their websites/social media pages directly and purchase through there.

A number of WAC members have prints for sale to raise funds for the Victorian Socialists local council elections. These are available here.

Can I join?

Our group is not closed-off, but it is kinda small. That’s because it is based primarily on long-term organising relationships - we have all known each other as activists for years, and most of us work out of a shared art studio. This trust is foundational to our project. We are, however, working on some bigger undertakings in the future that we hope to open up a bit more - if this happens and we are interested in working with you, we will reach out :-) Feel free to email us introducing yourself and showing us some samples of your work if you like.

Can you do work for my organisation?

Please get in contact with us directly if you are interested in working with the collective - workersartcollective@gmail.com
